Art meets nature in Brazilian open-air museum

This is not your ordinary landscape. What you’re about to see is view upon view of a 250-acre garden, which doubles as one of the largest open air museums in the world.

Executive director Antonio Grassi says this is an exclusive encounter between art and botanics, in both the international art scene AND in Brazil.

There’s more than 500 works by over a hundred artists… and some guests say, they see a type of synergy between the sculptures and nature.

“I think it’s very intensive to think about this landscape here and then the artists make the work intention here.”

Most of the pavilion buildings ARE works of art themselves, designed for specific artists by a number of local architects.

Founded in the 1980’s, the art complex originally housed the private art collection of local mining billionaire Bernardo Paz.

He made the decision to open it up to a much wider audience…

Now, over 300,000 art lovers each year soak in a new realm of creativity.
