Protesters cheer after setting a car on fire — on day five of protests against Burundi’s president, Pierre Nkurunziza.

Activists say he’s violating the constitution by seeking a third term…

…and jeopardizing a 2005 peace deal that ended the nation’s bloody civil war.

The Red Cross says at least 15 people were injured in the latest clashes with police.

Authorities have tried to quell the unrest by cutting access to sites like Twitter and Facebook…but the protesters are defiant.

(SOUNDBITE) (Kirundi) JAQUELINE NIYONZIMA, PROTESTER, SAYING:

“We do not want any violence, we want peace, he should give us peace. If he does not agree we will continue like this. He can kill two or three of us but others will be born.”

African and Western nations have urged Nkurunziza not to run for president again…

…saying escalating violence could trigger ethnic bloodletting and reopen old wounds.
