At least 20 people are dead in an ongoing hostage situation at a hotel in wah-ga-doo-goo Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso in West Africa.
Islamist gunmen stormed the Splendid Hotel which is frequented by Westerners on Friday evening.
Militants from al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb are claiming responsibility for the attack.
Government officials said security forces launched an assault early on Saturday to rescue the hostages and retake the building.
The director of the city’s university hospital said they were treating 15 people, some with bullet wounds.
One patient said the attackers appeared to target white people.
This is the first time Islamist militants have carried out an assault in the capital of Burkina Faso.
