Baby boy rescued from rubble in Aleppo
ROUGH CUT – NATURAL (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
Rescuers pulled out a baby boy from under rubble of a collapsed building in Aleppo, according to amateur video uploaded to the internet on Friday (September 23).
The video shows officials and civilians desperately digging around the head of the baby boy that is seen submerged in the ground.
Once freed from the rubble a man is seen rushing the baby, most likely to seek medical attention.
The video emerged as Aleppo came under heavy bombardment, with warplanes launching some of the heaviest air strikes yet on rebel-held parts of the city.
In a late night announcement on Thursday (September 22), the Syrian military announced “the start of its operations in the eastern districts of Aleppo”, and warned people to stay away from “the headquarters and positions of the armed terrorist gangs”.
The Syrian Observatory for Human rights said there were at least 40 air strikes since midnight.
Heavy bombardment of rebel-held areas of eastern Aleppo has killed more than 70 people and has destroyed at least 40 buildings since Friday morning, Ammar al Selmo, the head of civil defence there, told Reuters.
