Baby panda twins developing “splendidly”

The panda twins born at Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna turned 16 days old on Tuesday (August 23) and are said to be fit and healthy. In a statement, the zoo said the cubs were continuing to “develop splendidly” and that their mother Yang Yang is relaxed in her care of the babies. The babies’ pink tinge is also increasingly replaced by black and white fur and they are described as looking more like miniature pandas every day. Still, visitors to the zoo will have to wait a while before the new family make their public debut — panda cubs don’t form their auditory senses before 5 weeks of age. The zoo said it would be the end of the year before they can crawl around and leave the breeding box. Until then, visitors will be able to follow the growth of the young animals on a large video screen at the zoo which shows scenes from their current home.
