Usain Bolt claims his ninth Olympic gold medal as Jamaica wins the men’s 4×100 metre relay in Rio. Natasha Howitt reports.

And it’s a victory for Jamaica.

Usain Bolt’s win in the 4 x 100 metres relay clinches him a ninth Olympic gold medal, and a triple sweep of the sprint titles in the Olympics.

Japan came second, improving the Asian record they set in qualifying.

In third place was Canada, after a stumble and shock disqualification for the U.S.

Jamaica’s win saw fans near and far erupt in celebration.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FAN BORN IN JAMAICA LIVING IN LONDON, ROSELLA, SAYING:

“I feel absolutely amazing and to be Jamaican and to be here to witness this amazing achievement it’s such a great achievement for the country.”

In the Jamaican capital, Bolt’s supporters watched the race unfold on giant screens.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) MALE FAN SAYING:

“What this man has done tonight not only proved to me that this man is a legend, this man is one of the greatest men to ever walk on Jamaica land!”

Just two days away from his 30th birthday, Bolt has now sealed the so-called triple-triple.

In other words, he has just won Olympic gold in the 100 metre, 200 metre and 4 x 100 metre races in three straight Olympics.
