“It’s true that we haven’t had a lot of time to work together with this team. I think this makes things a bit tough, but we’re not going to let it be an excuse that we’ve had little practice time, they say it is a psychological thing. We’re here to win, we’re here to give our all in every game whether it is a friendly or a game that counts.”

“We also have to be really humble and recognize that this charge, what might be disillusion, a dissatisfaction with the Brazilian team in general, but us players, we are totally convinced that we are capable of playing well and will pick the rhythm back up wearing this shirt. That’s the team’s main objective. We are aware of all the challenges.”

5. BRAZIL COACH, DUNGA, SPEAKING WITH PLAYERS ON THE PRACTICE PITCH

STORY: Brazil were back on the practice pitch in Fortaleza on Saturday (October 10) after losing to Chile 2-0 in their first World Cup 2018 qualifier.

Brazil is hoping to bounce back from the loss in Santiago when they face Venezuela here on Tuesday (October 13).

Brazil’s head coach, Dunga, has said he does not plan on radically changing the line up despite the loss to the Copa America champions.

Players Marcelo and Luiz Gustavo said the team was trying to put the loss behind them as they focus on the task at hand.

Marcelo said they were not looking for excuses even though he says the current squad has not had a lot of playing time together.

“It’s true that we haven’t had a lot of time to work together with this team. I think this makes things a bit tough, but we’re not going to let it be an excuse that we’ve had little practice time, they say it is a psychological thing. We’re here to win, we’re here to give our all in every game whether it is a friendly or a game that counts,” Marcelo said.

“We also have to be really humble and recognize that this charge, what might be disillusion, a dissatisfaction with the Brazilian team in general, but us players, we are totally convinced that we are capable of playing well and will pick the rhythm back up wearing this shirt. That’s the team’s main objective. We are aware of all the challenges,” said Luiz Gustavo.

The South American qualifiers are in a round-robin format with all 10 teams playing each other home and away. The top four qualify automatically and the fifth-place team goes into a playoff.

Brazil’s defeat and Argentina’s surprising 2-0 loss at home to Ecuador suggest the qualifying competition could be more open than at any time previously.

Brazil have never failed to qualify for the World Cup finals but they are taking nothing for granted this time after their 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Germany in the tournament’s semi-final last year.
