BSF seizes Bangladesh-bound contraband at border

Bhagalpur, June 11 (ANI): Paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) seized huge quantity of contraband being smuggled into neighbouring Bangladesh through Tripura. The 195 battalion of the BSF, which guards 300 kilometers of the India-Bangladesh border, carried out the operation jointly with local police and a narcotic control cell. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the forces seized bottles of banned cough syrups hidden under fruit cartons in trucks. Besides cough syrup bottles, cartons of foreign alcohol were also recovered. More than three million rupees worth contraband was seized. Cough syrup, which is used as a substitute for liquor, is frequently smuggled into Bangladesh through India’s northeastern states, four of which – Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Assam-share boundary with the neighbouring country.
