3. (SOUNDBITE)(English) SEBASTIEN BUEMI SAYING:

“Yes, well the ABT team obviously looked very strong in Donington so I didn’t really know what to expect. But I expected them to be really quick. And from the first sessions onward I said that we had made some improvements since the last test. We went to the dyno (dynamometer) with the car and it looked more competitive. So yeah, in the race – it was a perfect race.

I had a bad start to be honest, Nick had a fantastic start, I felt. So yeah, it is a perfect weekend. I never scored all the points. So it is good and I will enjoy that.”

4. (SOUNDBITE)(English) LUCAS DI GRASSI SAYING:

“There are more discrepancies between one drive-train and another but that is part of racing. We are here to prove the technology is better. We are here to prove electric racing, to improve the technology of electric racing. We can see that on lap times. We have been roughly four, five seconds quicker than last year with the same amount of energy, with the same battery pack. Just on improving the technology so that I think is the positive point, that the manufacturers can show the technology.”

“Very very good. I mean we expected the two teams ahead of us to be there. But at least it is only two cars and not four. And we also expected some others to be very close or maybe ahead so we couldn’t have wished for more.”

STORY: The FIA’s electric racing series, Formula E, began its second season on Saturday (October 24) with a second Beijing Grand Prix.

Switzerland’s Sebastien Buemi, last year’s title runner-up, scored the maximum points with pole position, the race win and fastest lap as he was fastest around 26 laps of the street circuit around Beijing’s former Olympic Park.

Buemi said his Renault-e.Dams car had appeared quick in pre-season testing at the series base, the Donington Park track in central England, but he had expected other teams, such as the ABT Schaeffler Audi team to be as fast.

“The ABT team obviously looked very strong in Donington so I didn’t really know what to expect. But I expected them to be really quick. And from the first sessions onward I said that we had made some improvements since the last test. We went to the dyno (dynamometer) with the car and it looked more competitive. So yeah, in the race – it was a perfect race,” the Swiss said.

“I had a bad start to be honest, Nick had a fantastic start,” he added. “So yeah, it is a perfect weekend. I never scored all the points. So it is good and I will enjoy that.”

From a hesitant start in September 2014, when some teams confessed they did not know if their cars would last the distance, the racing series has become stronger and the cars more reliable.

The races still see the drivers use two cars per race as the electric batteries only last for half the distance but Lucas di Grassi, who won the first race of the series in 2014, said the manufacturers taking part in Formula E were able to use it to improve the technology of electric transport, with visible results.

“We are here to prove the technology is better,” he said. “We are here to prove electric racing, to improve the technology of electric racing. We can see that on lap times. We have been roughly four, five seconds quicker than last year with the same amount of energy, with the same battery pack. Just on improving the technology so that I think is the positive point, that the manufacturers can show the technology.”

Nick Heidfeld said the performance of his Mahindra Racing team car had been strong, delivering a third place.

“Very very good,” he said. “I mean we expected the two teams ahead of us to be there. But at least it is only two cars and not four. And we also expected some others to be very close or maybe ahead so we couldn’t have wished for more.”

Next stop in the series is Putrajaya in Malaysia on November 7.
