STORY: Canada won the 2015 women’s Beach Volleyball Fuzhou Open in China on Sunday (April 26) defeating Germany in straight sets in the final.

The Canadian duo of Kristina Valjas and Jamie Lynn Broder took the first set 21-17.

The second set was much tighter with German duo Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude keeping the score close before Canada converted their championship point with a smash by Broder.

“We knew that they were going be strong coming in, like they are both solid players with great execution so we had to match that with our execution. We had to come and bring our aggressive attacks because that’s our game and that’s how we win. Just our confidence is getting boosted right now because everyone back at home is cheering for us, sending us these messages – our families, our friends, our coach, everyone is behind us and that’s what I think helped us push through in this final game,” said Valjas following the game.

The American duo of Kerri Walsh and April Ross finished third after defeating hosts China in the play-offs. Canada had beaten the United States in the semi-final in a tough lengthy match.
