“Don’t be unrealistic and you are six points off and you are under the line of relegation and that is also a fact. So we have to work very hard and be very concentrated and gather our points to step up. And it was a setback, a pity in the 86th minute we got this draw against West Brom which would have helped us a lot in going up.”

“But it was reality. We were down when we started. We were one point off of the line, relegation line, and now we have a little more of a breath, but anyhow we have two difficult games coming up – Everton which has a very good away record as well in the last 10 games. I don’t know but I think nine out of 10 they made a result, and then Arsenal, which means two very difficult games. And if you don’t gather there the points you don’t know what the others do. Premier League can surprise you.”

“I am happy on the other hand that Remy is now working a full week with the high intensity and if needed he can be on the pitch. So that is a little bit new for me as well, but that is good, so as long as this is happening we are not very active in doing other things.”

STORY: Champions Chelsea are involved in a relegation battle this season, interim manager Guus Hiddink said on Friday (January 15) before his side’s Premier League clash with Everton.

The London club play Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (January 16) and then play current league leader Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium the following Sunday (January 24).

Chelsea, who romped to the title last season eight points clear at the top, are 14th in the table after 21 games, six points above the relegation zone, having been held to a 2-2 draw by visitors West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday (January 13).

Hiddink said his team have to remain vigilant and realistic.

“Don’t be unrealistic and you are six points off and you are under the line of relegation and that is also a fact,” he told reporters at Chelsea’s training ground near London. “So we have to work very hard and be very concentrated and gather our points to step up. And it was a setback, a pity in the 86th minute we got this draw against West Brom which would have helped us a lot in going up.”

Hiddink reported that Loic Remy, available as a striker, had regained his fitness after injury, and he indicated Chelsea would not have need of other players in the January transfer market.

“I am happy on the other hand that Remy is now working a full week with the high intensity and if needed he can be on the pitch. So that is a little bit new for me as well, but that is good, so as long as this is happening we are not very active in doing other things,” Hiddink said.
