Chennai students collect relief materials for Nepal earthquake victims

Chennai, / Kathmandu, April 27 (ANI): To help bring relief to the thousands of affected people in Nepal, school students in Chennai city on Monday collected immediate requirements like medicines, blankets and food material from shopkeepers to send to the neighbouring country, reeling from one of the worst earthquakes in its history. A massive earthquake with 7.9 magnitude hit Nepal at midday on Saturday followed by 55 aftershocks. The calamity, one of the worst in over 81 years, killed over 3,600 people. Students of Fathima Matriculation Higher Secondary School observed two minutes silence in tribute to the departed souls, before they began their rally. The school principal, Nigar Akthar, said the relief material would be airlifted to New Delhi and later distributed in the earthquake-hit areas.
