China’s Guo Pei presents first Paris collection

Chinese designer Guo Pei ended the Paris Haute Couture fashion week on Wednesday (January 27), with an exquisite display of her collection entitled “the Emperor’s courtyard”. For her first show on a Parisian catwalk, Guo, a brand designer turned haute couture stylist already well known China, showcased an array of refined and elegant outfits. As the models swayed down the runway, mirroring ladies strolling in a royal Chinese courtyard, each piece of clothing resembled a work of art with an emphasis on detail. Sumptuous gowns, cloaks and jackets were among some of the pieces that were entirely embroidered by hand in a traditional Chinese way. Guo was catapulted into the international spotlight when she designed singer Rihanna’s canary yellow cape dress for the ball at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art last May.
