Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue was bathed in green and yellow on Wednesday to mark 100 days to the opening ceremony of the city’s Olympic Games.
Reports said hundreds of LED projectors were used to change the 98-foot statue’s appearance from its usual white glow to a more patriotic blend of colours.
The Rio Olympics kicks off on August 5 and wraps up on August 21, but political factors are threatening to overshadow the Games.
President Dilma Rousseff is facing impeachment, the country is embroiled in a major corruption scandal and the region’s largest nation is grappling with severe recession. .
