Cruz taken to task over Obamacare

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz told a town hall meeting in Hubbard, Iowa Saturday (January 30) that the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, needs to be repealed.

But one man at the gathering, identified by CBS as as Mike Valde, questioned that position.

Valde said Obamacare allowed his brother-in-law to see a doctor for the first time in years, only to discover that he had cancer that had advanced too far to be cured.

He asked Cruz if Obamacare was going to be repealed, what would replace it?

Cruz further explained his position saying that there are millions of stories on the other side regarding people who’d lost their existing insurance plans under Obamacare.

After speaking a while longer, Cruz said to Valde that his relative could have purchased the insurance sooner had it been more affordable but “because of government regulations, he couldn’t.”

The questioning came just two days before the closely-watched Iowa caucuses.

The latest polls show Cruz locked in a tight race against real estate developer Donald Trump.
