Dalit women should be allowed to contest Panchayat polls: Kharge
Bengaluru, Dec 26 (ANI): Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states of snatching away the rights of women, Dalits and other backward classes by introducing minimum educational qualifications as criteria to contest Panchayat Polls in Rajasthan and Haryana. He believed that as per the Constitution, everyone in the country was allowed to contest and vote in the Elections, and hence, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should not make such a move. He added that BJP should firstly bring the level of education at par since fifty percent women were Illiterate and most women were not educated. They should make such rules applicable only when they provide basic education to the people. He also added that the move was nothing but infringement of the Rights of Women, Dalits and other backward classes.
