Delhi Government asks celebs not to endorse tobacco products
New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Endorsing a brand is always considered the second best source of income for Bollywood stars and it also increases their popularity among their fans. However, in a twist of tale, the Delhi Government has requested celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn, Govinda, Arbaaz Khan and former porn star Sunny Leone to not to advertise tobacco products on TV. The Delhi Government has taken this step as the pan masala products come with potential cancer agents. In the latest update, Sunny Leone has responded to the Delhi Government’s plea and has agreed to their polite request. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government has also asked these celebs to join its anti-tobacco campaign to save the lives of people who die due to oral cancer every year. If the report of National Cancer Registry Programme is to be believed, India records 1,300 cancer deaths daily and close to 5 lakh every year. Tobacco use alone accounts for around 40% of all cancers, 90% of oral cancers and 30% of tuberculosis cases in India.
