Devotees throng temples on 3rd Monday of ‘Sawan’

Varanasi/Guwahati, July 24 (ANI): Devotees were seen queuing up outside the ‘Sukreswar Temple’ on the third Monday of the holy month of ‘Sawan’. Chanting religious slogans, the devotees eagerly awaited to offer their prayers at the holy shrine. In the ancient city of Varanasi also, the devotees were seen offering their prayers at the famous ‘Kashi Vishwanath Temple.’ A jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is established at this holy shrine, which holds immense religious importance in Hinduism. All Mondays which fall during the month of ‘Sawan’ are considered auspicious and devotees observe fasts during this time. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva saved the entire universe by drinking poison which emerged from ‘samudra manthan.’
