“After serious discussions and consultations, the science and security board has arrived at its conclusion. And it says with utter dismay that the clock remains at three minutes to midnight. It is, remains the closest it has been over the last twenty years.”

While the scientists welcomed news like the Iran nuclear agreement and the Paris climate accord — they raised concerns about North Korea and tensions between nuclear powers India and Pakistan.

The announcement comes less than a week after U.S. scientists reported that 2015 was the Earth’s hottest on record, fresh evidence that people are disrupting the climate — leaving the clock at three minutes to doomsday.
