“Within the team we contemplate Messi recovering one hundred percent. That’s the only thing that worries us. And whether this happens on a precise date or not, it’s immaterial. There’s still a huge season to look forward to and the most important thing is he recovers one hundred percent”

“What interests me is being La Liga champions, that’s what we’re all interested in. Getting to El Clasico with three (points) above or three below, obviously we want to get there with three above. But it’s not the objective. What is our objective is to play our best against Getafe, have more chances to score, let in less goals, give them less chances to score, more feasible objectives, at hand’s reach”

“It started as a marble and it’s now become a snowball and it’s getting bigger and bigger. Usually the establishment should be there to avoid these things happening but I see it’s the opposite. The more we talk about it, the more it gets sanctioned, the more it becomes bigger and let’s see where it ends. I don’t know”

STORY: FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique said on Friday (October 30) that the team is more concerned with talisman Lionel Messi’s one hundred percent recovery, whether or not this happens before or after El Clasico against Real Madrid on November 21.

The Catalan side are missing the injured Argentine but the other members of the attacking trident that hit a Spanish record 122 goals between them last season have been able to dig them out of trouble when necessary.

Last weekend it was Suarez who celebrated a year since his Barca debut with a hat-trick as they had to come from 1-0 down to beat a determined Eibar 3-1 at the Camp Nou.

The poor display of a second string in a 0-0 draw away to third tier Villanovense in the first leg of their King’s Cup Last 32 tie on Wednesday (October 28) was indication that the back-up is unconvincing for Luis Enrique as he prepared his squad to travel to Getafe for their La Liga match on Saturday (October 31).

But Enrique said the team is not worried and will wait for Messi’s full recovery.

“Within the team we contemplate Messi recovering one hundred percent. That’s the only thing that worries us. And whether this happens on a precise date or not, it’s immaterial. There’s still a huge season to look forward to and the most important thing is he recovers one hundred percent,” said Enrique.

Last season’s treble winners are joint leaders of La Liga with Real Madrid on 21 points from nine games following their win over Eibar and top their Champions League group.

El Clasico is likely be a key match in La Liga, but one that Enrique is not concerned with at the moment.

“What interests me is being La Liga champions, that’s what we’re all interested in. Getting to El Clasico with three (points) above or three below, obviously we want to get there with three above. But it’s not the objective. What is our objective is to play our best against Getafe, have more chances to score, let in less goals, give them less chances to score, more feasible objectives, at hand’s reach.

Along with Messi, Andres Iniesta and Rafinha are also among the injured while Javier Mascherano has received a two-match suspension following his red card in the match against Eibar for verbally abusing a linesman, the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) said on Wednesday (October 28).

The squad has also been hampered because the club have not been allowed to bring in players over the last two transfer windows due to a FIFA ban over the illegal signing of minors.

In addition to these worries, Barcelona are fighting a second fine imposed by UEFA after fans displayed pro-Catalan independence flags during September’s Champions League Group E match at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

Enrique believes that the scope of the UEFA issue is out of hand.

“It started as a marble and it’s now become a snowball and it’s getting bigger and bigger. Usually the establishment should be there to avoid these things happening but I see it’s the opposite. The more we talk about it, the more it gets sanctioned, the more it becomes bigger and let’s see where it ends. I don’t know,” he said.

Barca, whose motto is ‘More than a club’, has long been an outlet for fans who support Catalan independence from Spain to express their beliefs.
