Sikar (Rajasthan), Oct 11 (ANI): When the nation is fighting for women empowerment, priests in Sikar have come up with a unique initiative to fight against female foeticide. Now, couples tying knot will take an additional ‘pheras’, which will signify vow against female foeticide. Usually Hindu couples take seven rounds around the fire as part of marriage rituals and each round signifies a vow taken by the couple. Pandits in Sikar of Rajasthan will ask the bride and groom to take extra round of the holy fire and take a vow to ‘save the daughter and teach the daughter’. In a bid to ensure success of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme, a collector, Naresh Kumar Thakral, came up with the idea of linking it with religious customs and rituals. He held a meeting with priests and requested them to be a part of this campaign in the district. The pandits have lauded the district collector’s initiative and assured him of their full cooperation.
