Farmers across India demand procurement of wheat crop and adequate compensation
Amritsar/ Varanasi, April 25 (ANI): Distressed farmers across India demanded procurement of wheat by government agencies and adequate compensation for the losses suffered due to unseasonal rains. Farmers have blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not stepping in to help them. In Amritsar, farmers rued that no government help was available to them as they waited at a wholesale market to sell their produce. They blamed the government in Punjab for not coming forward to procure their produce. Rattled by a large number of farmers’ suicides, Modi government has sent his senior ministers to take stock of the crops damaged. In Varanasi, Modi’s parliamentary constituency, farmers said they were still waiting for compensation. The farmers are demanding the government to compensate them for the losses and waive off their loans as they are not in the position to pay.
