Chennai, Nov 09 (ANI): The fishermen in Chennai stayed away from the sea on Monday after a cyclone alert was sounded in Tamil Nadu following a deep depression intensifying over the Bay of Bengal. Incessant rains and heavy winds have been battering the state for the last few days. Similar conditions were likely to continue for the next 24 hours, according to weather department. Winds ranging between 40 to 60 kmph blew across the shores on Monday. With their boats tied at the shores, the fishermen eagerly waited for the tides to calm down and return to work. Heavy rains inundated the low-lying areas in the city and threw normal life out of gear. Schools and colleges in the city continue to remain shut and the people struggled to reach their offices. However, Director of Regional Metrological Department, SR Ramanan, ruled out cyclone threat in Tamil Nadu but predicted heavy downpour in the state.
