Girl rescued after 15 hours under rubble

STORY: A young girl was pulled out of the rubble of a collapsed building on Wednesday (August 24) after being buried under debris for 15 hours following a devastating quake in Italy.

Italian fire-fighters picked away at the debris in Amatrice and shouted “Quiet!” as they tried to find the child, believed to be named Julia and aged approximately 10 years old.

After more digging, little legs were seen poking out from the debris. She was then pulled from the rubble covered in dust.

Rescue workers cheered and applauded as the girl was carried away from the scene by a fire-fighter.

No information about her family was immediately available.

The death toll from the quake which hit early Wednesday rose to at least 247 people by Thursday morning.
