Arnold Palmer, one of golf’s greatest players, has died at the age of 87. Diane Hodges reports.

Arnold Palmer, the golfer who drew so many fans to watch his tournaments that they became known as “Arnie’s Army, has died, according to the U.S. Golf Association.

Palmer scored his first tour win in 1955, but over the succeeding decades, he went on to win dozens of PGA Tour events.

Nicknamed “The King”, he was one of golf’s most popular stars and the first superstar of the sport’s television age.

Along with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, he helped popularize the sport of golf around the world.

Among his honors: being one of the original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Golf officials announced on social media that Palmer died Sunday at the age of 87.

No cause of death was given.
