Greece’s Tsipras ‘ashamed’ of EU over migrant crisis

Sharing is Caring

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras doesn’t mince his words when slamming Europe’s response to the migrant crisis, while migrants in SLovenia are in a crush to enter Austria before the door closes. Mana Rabiee reports.

Greece’s Tsipras ‘ashamed’ of EU over migrant crisis

Greece’s coast guard says it’s rescued nearly 140 migrants after their boat capsized in the Aegean.

Nineteen bodies were also recovered, just the latest in a now-routine narrative in the Mediterranean.

Some half a million migrants escaping conflict at home have passed though Greece this year alone, and EU leaders have been bickering over who’s to blame and what’s to be done about it.

An angry Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, told parliament just what he thinks about Europe’s response to the migrant crisis… and didn’t mince his words saying it.

“As a member of the European leadership I feel shame. Shame, both for the inability of Europe to deal effectively with this human drama, but also for the quality of discussion…. These days, the waves of the Aegean aren’t just washing out dead refugees and dead children on our shores. They are washing out European civilization itself.”

But Greece is just one hot spot in the migrant crisis.

In Slovenia, over 4,000 migrants and refugees have been waiting at the border with Austria for the fences to open and let them pass… the lucky ones spent the night in heated tents… others waited in the open air.

Austria’s signaled it’s reaching its capacity to handle the influx of migrants and that it plans to build barriers at a key border crossing with Slovenia.

With Hungary and others tightening their borders to manage the migrant flow, there’s a crush now to pass through into Austria … before that door, too, closes.
