New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday react after Gujarat Election Commissioner HS Brahma said that in his view, the Gujarat government’s move to make voting compulsory in elections to local bodies “may not be correct”. He also questioned on the intensity of punishment for the violators of Compulsory Voting Bill and asked if the state government will put eight crore voters in jail or impose fines on them on violation. Congress leaders Arjun Modhwadia and Rashid Alvi supported the statement and said that the same needs to be decided first by the state government. Modhwadia also challenged the feasibility of punishing a large section of offenders. NCP and BJD too followed suit and said that EC has raised correct question. Meanwhile, BJP Spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that Gujarat government’s initiative is phenomenal and a great initiative for democracy of India.
