More than 4,000 Hindu devotees and other attendees celebrated the birth of the elephant god Ganesh in Paris on Sunday (August 28) as they paraded through the streets of the French capital.

Devotees made their way through the large crowd banging on drums and dancing barefoot, as they carried offerings on their shoulders.

The crowd of devotees from mostly Indian and Sri Lankan descent were joined by many Parisians and tourists who came to take part in the parade and experience a small piece of Hindu culture.

The Ganesh Chaturthi is the fourth day of a festival which celebrates the birth of the one of the most favored Hindu gods who represents prosperity and good fortune.
