Human rights panel deems killing of suspected sandalwood smugglers in AP as illegal

Hyderabad, April 23 (ANI): National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday called killing of 20 suspected sandalwood smugglers by state police of Andhra Pradesh, illegal. Earlier this month, police shot dead 20 stone-throwing sandalwood smugglers during the biggest operation for years to stamp out trafficking of the rare commodity. The NHRC had on April 13 called two eyewitnesses to testify at their headquarters in Delhi. Later on April 15, one more eyewitness was produced in Puducherry city. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had also written to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart asking for a quick investigation.
