Leaping from a 27-meter or 89-foot high platform, Brit Gary Hunt begins his quest for his fifth international cliff diving title.

The first leg of the competition was held in Cartagena, Colombia and the 30,000 spectators were firmly behind native, Orlando Duque.

But all that support wasn’t enough for a win and Duque plunged to third place.

SOUNDBITE: Orlando Duque, Colombian diver, saying (English):

“Of course I wanted to win. But I feel good with third place, it’s a tough competition, I made a couple of small mistakes in two dives and you know, that puts me a third place.”

The day was Hunt’s, as he gained the 29th victory of his career with a score of 526.20 points.

SOUNDBITE: Gary Hunt, British diver, saying (English):

“I feel amazing. I really wanted to start off strong and to show that my preparation has been on point.”
