Israeli zoo welcomes new born rhino

Tanda, a 23-year-old square-lipped white rhinoceros from Israel’s Safari Zoo at Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, this week gave birth to a male rhino. Tanda was brought to the park 13 years ago, mostly for the purpose of breeding, but the baby rhino is her first born. The new baby marks the 28th baby born at the zoo. Keepers put it down to the condtion of the zoo, which are much like those in Africa, where many rhinos originate from. With the overall number of rhinos dropping, the zoo say that these kind of births in captivity are a positive for the entire species.
