Ranchi: A Statewide Jharkhand Bandh has been called today (May 4) by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and the CPI to protest against the Land Acquisition Bill, which is pending in Parliament. It is being supported by Center for Indian Trade Unions(CITU). Other parties likely to support the shutdown are JVM, Jharkhand People’s Party, JD(U), RJD, CPM and SP.
According to the Telegraph, Autorickshaw associations – Chotanagpur Taxi and Temp Chalak Sangh and Jharkhand Pradesh Diesel Auto Chalak Mahasangh – have extended support to the bandh, too.
“We are extending active support. You will see us on the road on bandh day, protesting against the ordinance,” said Udayshankar Ojha, state president of Jharkhand Truck Owners’ Association.
Jharkhanf Mukti Morcha, despite its opposition to the land bill, is not joining the JVM-led Bandh. With so much political backing, the bandh is likely to remain quite effective.
Additional Police forces are being deployed across the state to prevent any unwanted incident.
The supporters of the Bandh plant to bring the road, rail and even air traffic to a standstill. They allege that Jharkhand will be mostly affected it was implemented owning to its 40 per cent mineral deposits of the country.
