Curtis Hanson, director of L.A. Confidential, has been found dead at his home in California at the age of 71. Paul Chapman reports.

The Los Angeles police department says LA Confidential director Curtis Hanson was found dead at his home in California on Tuesday.
Hanson, along with Brian Helgeland, won an Oscar in 1997 for best writing for the the movie adapted from the novel by James Ellroy.
He also shared the nomination for best picture and was nominated for best director.
The movie also won an Oscar for actress Kim Basinger.
His other films included The River Wild, The Wonder Boys, 8 Mile and In Her Shoes.
Hanson had retired in recent years because of Alzheimer’s disease, according to Variety.com.
Police say the 71-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the scene, died from natural causes.
