Asansol/Howrah/Murshidabad, April 30 (ANI): The Left Front and its central trade unions on Thursday called for a bandh in West Bengal to protest against the incidents of violence and vote loot by activists of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the recently concluded Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections. Reportedly, the bandh called out by the left front was backed by the Bhartiya Janta Party. Meanwhile, violent clashes broke out between the workers of BJP and TMC in Asansol and between TMC and CPI (M) workers in Murshidabad. Earlier in the day, a government bus was vandalized by unknown assailants in Howrah and the police baton charged at the protesters in Asansol. Also, the locals in Kolkata had to face a lot of problems due to the shutdown. This is the first general strike called by the Left trade unions and Left parties in the state in last four years.
