1. (SOUNDBITE)(English) LIVERPOOL MANAGER JUERGEN KLOPP SAYS:

“After Watford it was clear what we had to do. It was really clear because we had these problems against West Brom(wich), Crystal Palace, Watford and we had these problems not against Leicester because we reacted. That is what is really good, really satisfied with. And now we have to play against Sunderland and we don’t want to go there to show how football ‘should be’. We go there and want to win, that’s the only reason we travel there and that is what we have to show, and there is no reason to doubt in the mentality of the team and think ‘oh, it is only Sunderland’ or something like this. We are not, how I know them, nobody in the team is like this. We want to improve our situation and we want to develop – get more points in this very very important moment in the League. End of December, January so many points in January and December, it is unbelievable and you should take each you can.”

STORY: Liverpool are preparing to travel to Sunderland for Wednesday’s (December 30) match looking for a second consecutive win.

Liverpool bounced back from three win-less matches to beat Premier League leader Leicester City 1-0 on Saturday (December 26), only the second defeat for Leicester this season and the first time the Foxes were denied a goal.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp told reporters on Monday (December 28) that his team drew up a list of improvements after losing 3-0 at Watford on December 20.

“After Watford it was clear what we had to do,” said Klopp. “It was really clear because we had these problems against West Brom(wich), Crystal Palace, Watford and we had these problems not against Leicester because we reacted. That is what is really good, really satisfied with. And now we have to play against Sunderland and we don’t want to go there to show how football ‘should be’. We go there and want to win, that’s the only reason we travel there.”

Klopp added that nobody in his team underestimated Sunderland, and their aim was to gain as many points in late December and January as possible.

Klopp told reporters that James Milner is still out with a calf injury, forward Divock Origi is probably out for at least a match with a hamstring problem, depending on the results of a scan, while midfielder Jordon Ibe is training again.

Liverpool, currently eighth in the Premier League, then face West Ham on January 2.
