1. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIA RUGBY UNION HEAD COACH MICHAEL CHEIKA SAYING:

“Obviously very painful to lose. Big, big match. We’ve had a great campaign and we wanted to continue that on and when you look up and see that you haven’t done that, that’s when it’s painful, you know and you’ve got to eat it up”

2. WHITE FLASH

3. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CHEIKA SAYING:

“We’re lucky that we get to play them (NZ) regularly in the Rugby Championship, so we can keep trying to improve and that’s definitely – you’ve got to take, mark yourself against the best, they’ve been number one for a while and I think we’ve made good ground over the last 12 months in that area, you know and we’ve got to keep growing. For us, a lot of the guys at this part of the tournament for us, you know I said to the guys ‘don’t be counting down lads, like this is just the start, we’re just starting’, you know. And we want to do really good things for Australian rugby going forward you know, both by the way we play the game and then, you know, hopefully the results as well by consequence”

4. WHITE FLASH

5. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIA RUGBY UNION CAPTAIN AND HOOKER STEPHEN MOORE SAYING:

“Since this group’s come together under Cheik’ we’ve spent a lot of time making sure that we understand what it means playing for Australia and to pull the jersey on and you know, I guess that whatever you do on the field is a consequence of that. Tonight we just weren’t good enough. You know, that was it, so you know, all that other stuff I guess we’ll sit back when we get home and you know there’s certainly been terrific support from back home, it’s been fantastic and we really appreciate that and you know we, we would have loved to deliver tonight, but that’s the way it goes”

STORY: Australian rugby head coach Michael Cheika said it was very painful to lose the world cup final 34-17 to New Zealand on Saturday (October 31), but his squad has done well and will get even better.

“Obviously very painful to lose. Big, big match. We’ve had a great campaign and we wanted to continue that on and when you look up and see that you haven’t done that, that’s when it’s painful, you know and you’ve got to eat it up,” Cheika told a post-match news conference at Twickenham.

And we want to do really good things for Australian rugby going forward you know, both by the way we play the game and then, you know, hopefully the results as well by consequence,” said Cheika.

Australia captain and hooker Stephen Moore praised the support for the squad, especially back home.

“Since this group’s come together under Cheik’ we’ve spent a lot of time making sure that we understand what it means playing for Australia and to pull the jersey on and you know, I guess that whatever you do on the field is a consequence of that. Tonight we just weren’t good enough.
