“No, no. I’m not preparing the match thinking about my professional future, this would be a mistake. I want to show a different picture than the one we have been showing during the Champions league. This won’t make us forget the past performances, but will help us to say good-bye to the competition properly.”

“Every match is good to improve, showing the face of a team that is aware of the situation, and this match against a team like the Valencia, that has just drawn with the Barcelona, has to help us to show a different picture than the one we have been showing lately.”

STORY: Despite an abysmal Champions League campaign, Olympique Lyonnais hope to finish with a flourish when they take on Valencia in their final group game on Wednesday (December 9).

Lyon only have one point after the five matches they have played and the French side find themselves bottom of Group H with no chance of qualifying for the next stage of the Champions League or even the Europa League.

The players, as well as head coach Hubert Fournier, are determined to prove that they are better than their showing so far in this tournament.

“We only won one point out of a possible fifteen, so it’s an awful ratio. But that is behind us now, we have a last match, a last challenge to face,” said midfielder Maxime Gonalons.

Fournier, who will be coming up against new Valencia manager Gary Neville in his first match in charge, has been under pressure this season following a poor campaign that sees the club lying in fifth place, 19 points behind leaders Paris Saint Germain.

However, Fournier said he isn’t thinking about his own future.

“I’m not preparing the match thinking about my professional future, this would be a mistake. I want to show a different picture than the one we have been showing during the Champions league. This won’t make us forget the past performances, but will help us to say good-bye to the competition properly,” said Fournier.

“Every match is good to improve, showing the face of a team that is aware of the situation, and this match against a team like the Valencia, that has just drawn with the Barcelona, has to help us to show a different picture than the one we have been showing lately,” he added.

Valencia trail Ghent by a point with one game remaining in the group stages, leaving Neville hoping his team can achieve a better result than that of the Belgians in their meeting with Zenit St Petersburg, who have booked their place in the next round as Group H winners with a perfect record so far.
