Madhesis throng ghats to cherish Chhath Puja festivities

Birgunj, Nepal, Nov 07 (ANI): A number of Hindu devotees from Nepal’s Madhes region thronged holy ghats to offer prayers to the Sun God on the occasion of Chhath Puja. The Madhesis celebrated the festival with zeal this year as it could not cherish the festivities amid the agitation in 2015. The holy ghats were decked up and enhanced security was provided by the administration to avoid any untoward incident. Relatives of the Madhes residents from border regions of India, including Bihar’s Raxaul joined them in cherishing the festivities. Chhath, an important Hindu-Vedic festival, falls on the fourth day after Diwali and continues for over next four days. Devotees fast rigorously, take holy baths and offer their prayers to the rising and setting sun. Hindus believe that sun is a healer of ailments and blesses his devotees with prosperity, well-being and happiness.
