MUSICAL SEND OFF FOR PARA ASIAN GAMES ATHLETES
After the initial glitches, with the Federation of Disabled Rights (FDR) criticising the sports ministry, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) for the delay in the announcement of Indian delegation for the Para Asian Games, PCI organized a sending off ceremony for the Indian contingent comprising 90 athletes.
Present on the occasion were Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, SAI DG Jiji Thompson, cricketing legend Kapil Dev and PCI President Rajesh Tomar. With high expectations from the contingent the sports minister is confident that the Para athletes will emulate the heroics of Asian Games medallist and surpass their medal tally of last edition.
On being asked why no camps for the Para athletes for the Para Asian Games were held up till few days back, Sonowal assured of extending all possible help in that direction.
For Indian team, the Asian Games was marred with controversies, ranging from food difficulties to Sarita Devi wailing openly for allegedly being robbed of her medal. Sonowal assured that the Para Asian Games athletes will not face anything close to that with officials being tagged along to keep an eye on the comforts of athletes
