Ladakh, J&K, Sep 18 (ANI): The air is charged with excitement in and around the famous Hemis monastery in Ladakh with gathering of devotees for the month-long Naropa festival in celebration of the millennial anniversary of the life and teachings of the eponymous Master of Tibetan Buddhism. It is being celebrated after a cycle of 12 years and is known as the Kumbh Mela of the Himalayas. The event this September, billed as Naropa 2016, falls in the Year of the Monkey on the Tibetan calendar. This year`s Naropa Festival is the biggest showcase by the Drukpa Lineage of the Tibetan Buddhism headed by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa after 2004. He is the supremo of the great Drukpa Kagyu Lineage. Since Druk means dragon, it is also known as the Dragon Lineage.
