This hospital in Kathmandu is overflowing with patients.

Those wounded in Saturday’s 7.9 magnitude earthquake await treatment, but doctors and medicine are in scarce supply.

More than 6500 people were injured during Saturday’s earthquake, more than 3200 were killed.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) VICE COUNSELOR OF NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE, DR. GANESH GURUNG, SAYING:

“There are a lot of patients who have got a devastating injury, including head as well as the amputation of the limbs, whole limb amputations. A lot of devastating injuries including chest, badly chest injuries.”

Rescue and recovery teams from around the world are making their way here, but travel in and out of the capital city is intermittent.

Aftershocks and bad weather forced the airport to close several times Sunday.

Passengers frustrations are mounting.

There’s nothing to eat or drink, this woman says. There’s no place to sleep and it’s been raining. We’re really upset.

This is the worst disaster to hit the region since 1934 when a similar quake killed 8500 people.
