The race for the Oscars heats up as stars attend the Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California. Jane Witherspoon reports.
Oscars race continues on Critics’ Choice carpet
Jennifer Aniston, Helen Mirren and Kirsten Dunst dazzling on the red carpet for the latest awards season show – The Critics Choice Awards.
It was a night of celebration but stars were very much keeping their eyes on the big prize – the Oscars.
Speaking of her nomination for Best Actress for her role in Brooklyn, Saoirse Ronan told how her mother broke the news to her.
SOUNDBITE Actress, Saoirse Ronan, saying (English):
“I was asleep in my bed in New York and my mam ran into me and she was sobbing and I didn’t know if it was a good thing or a bad thing that she was crying and it was a good thing and I pulled out my earplugs – I was jetlagged and I had earplugs in because I was trying to sleep and I had a really good sleep for some reason and she came in and gave me a big hug and we cried and freaked out for a second and then it was straight into press and all that but afterwards I got to go shopping to kit out my apartment which was nice.”
Sylvester Stallone is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards but his ‘Creed’ co-star Michael B. Jordan failed to get a nomination and many critics have complained the Oscars this year are too white.

“It’s so complicated. I’m not here to cast aspersions, I don’t to this day understand the process but he’s great and actually we were just in England together with Ryan Coogler but he’s young and talented and he’ll be back.”
The Oscars take place on Sunday 28th February in Los Angeles.
