Over 5000 farmers protest demanding loan waiver in Odisha

Khordha (Odisha), Jul 31 (ANI): More than 5000 farmers took to streets in Khordha district of Odisha on Tuesday over their demand for loan waiver. The farmers under the banner of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) walked 4 kilometres to submit a memorandum to Khordha Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra. The protesting farmers demanded three basic things- price, prestige and pension- for farmers. A farmer, said, “We want to farmers waive off loan. Government needs to assure Insurance to every farmer in the state.” Akshaya Kumar, Convener of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan, said, “We demand at least Rs 21,600 crore waivers from Centre.” He added, “PM Modi had increased Rs 200 only on paddy, we demand at least Rs 2930 on paddy.”
