Palayam plays unique role of uniting different religions at one single platform

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Dec 26 (ANI): Palayam, one of the busiest localities in Thiruvananthapuram, is also famous for its communal harmony. It is quite unique and a standing example of religious tolerance in the state as here three different religious centres are situated close to each other. These three centres namely, The Palayam Juma Masjid, St. Joseph’s Latin Cathedral or Palayam Palli and a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha co-exist within 100 metres of each other. The Palayam Juma Mazjid, a 200-year-old mosque shares a common wall with a Ganesha temple. At the opposite side, there is a famous 150-year-old Saint Joseph Cathedral church, forming a trio of religious centers. During the time of festivals, common celebrations are held with members of the communities actively participating in the festivities. A cultural organization works for the coordination of joint activities and a meeting of the communities is held every two months. People of Thiruvananthapuram city leaves no stone unturned when it comes to spreading the message of communal harmony. Around 3,000 people, including school children, dressed as Santa Claus traversed through the roads of the city.
