PM Modi urges people to promote crop insurance scheme
New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): Addressing the nation in the 16th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the nation to spread awareness about the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’. He said his government aimed at bringing 50% of the farmers under the ambit of the National Crop Insurance scheme. The Union Cabinet had earlier this month approved the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ for farmers’ welfare. As per the scheme, there will be a uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5%. The premium rates to be paid by the farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the government to provide full insured amount to the farmers against crop loss on account of natural calamities.
