Police arrest three smugglers with five kilogram of heroin in Amritsar
Amritsar, Dec 22 (ANI): Police busted a crime syndicate and arrested three smugglers with five kilograms of heroin in Punjab. Based on intelligence input, police conducted raids and nabbed the suspects from two different locations in Amritsar city with contraband substance, pistol and currency. Police Inspector, Gurinder Singh Nagra, said the investigation was underway to arrest more persons connected with the syndicate. Nagra added that recovered heroin was part of a 23-kilogram consignment brought from Pakistan. More than 248 kilogram of heroin has been seized in 2015 by paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF). The security forces attribute it to overgrown crops and the smugglers operating at night. Punjab had long been a transit point for drugs from Afghanistan and Pakistan, but has now become India’s heaviest consuming opium state.
