Hyderabad, July 04 (ANI): Police in Hyderabad city organised a marathon to encourage people to participate in a tree plantation drive. The initiative is part of ‘Haritha Haaram’, a programme by the government of Telangana to recover lost forest cover. Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, CV Anand, flagged off the three-kilometre marathon on Saturday and said the police were doing their bit to boost the government programme which is aimed at planting 1.2 billion saplings in three years. Anand added the police personnel in every zone of the city were visiting schools and colleges to create awareness and encourage students to plant at least one sapling and protect it. More than a hundred people including police personnel, young kids, adults and old persons participated in the marathon. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and one of the marathon organisers, Rama Rajeshwari, said the participants showed a lot of enthusiasm which made the event a success.
