Prayers pour in from India for quake-ravaged Nepal
Dharamsala/ Kushinagar/ Haridwar, April 29 (ANI): Special prayers were held across northern India to pray for the thousands of people who are coming to terms with their loss after a massive earthquake jolted Nepal last week. The 7.9 magnitude quake struck Nepal at midday on Saturday killing 4,682 and injuring more than 9,240. The Tibetan government-in-exile organized a mass prayer in hill town of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh. The prayer was attended by over 2,000 Tibetans including Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay, monks, nuns and school students. The powerful earthquake in Nepal also sent tremors across northern India. The tremors had caused buildings to collapse in Kushinagar, leaving a pall of dust over many areas.
A prayer ceremony was organized by Buddhist monks in the region for the welfare of those affected. Meanwhile, a prayer ceremony was also organized in Haridwar city of Uttarakhand at Pashupatinath temple built after the famous shrine by the same name in Nepal. Priests and devotees lit earthern lamps and prayed to the lord Shiva.
