South African anti-apartheid campaigner and retired Anglican Church bishop Desmond Tutu was given one of the British crown’s highest awards Monday (November 30) on a visit to his country from Prince Harry.

Tutu, a Nobel peace prize laureate, was awarded the Order of the Companions of Honor. Admittance to the order is reserved for Britain and Commonwealth countries to bestow upon men and women who have provided services of national importance.

“I stand out, or you stand out, in a crowd only because you have been carried on the shoulders of others,” Tutu told reporters after meeting with Prince Harry at the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation in Cape Town.

Later on Monday the prince will reportedly visit a center for youths at risk of joining crime gangs.
