Prosecutors begin death penalty argument in Boston bombing case

Capital punishment is on the minds of many in Boston, where prosecutors have started their case to sentence convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death.

Inside the court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Nadine Pellegrini sought to paint Tsarnaev as a violent extremist for carrying out the deadly April 15, 2013 attack that killed three people and injured 264.

The prosecution began with emotional testimony from survivors like Celeste Corcoran.

She described how she was hurled into the air by the bomb at the finish line.

At the hospital, doctors amputated both her legs.

Defense attorneys say Tamerlan Tsarnaev was the driving force behind the attack, with brother Dzhokhar acting out of sibling loyalty.

Tsarnaev’s lawyers chose to delay their opening statement until next week.
